ADVANCE HEALTH CARE DIRECTIVES & POWERS OF ATTORNEY

The primary purpose of the Advance Health Care Directive is for you to individually state your wishes for healthcare if you are unable to do so yourself. This document allows the designated Agent to make medical decisions on your behalf if you become incapacitated. In the event of death, it also sets forth your wishes regarding allowing for anatomical gifts and your funeral arrangements.

The Power of Attorney generally gives your designated Agent an array of powers  to act upon a person’s incapacity, whether temporary or permanent.  Powers authorized can be very limited and specific, such as the right to act only regarding the sale of real estate; or it can be very broad and general, such as handling business and financial matters, life insurance, real estate transactions, gifting, tax matters, and many other matters.  We always advise our clients to be sure they know and trust the person they designate as their Agent.
